2024 Renault 5 EV to inaugurate a new platform for electric cars

1.Will Nissan get to use it as well?

A commercial version of the electrified Renault 5 concept with a nostalgic aesthetic will debut in 2024. The French business published information on the platform it jointly created with Nissan, a sister company, to serve as the foundation for the hatchback, and development work is still ongoing.

The architecture, known as CMF-B EV, is a development of the CMF-B platform, which now supports a number of mass-produced vehicles, such as the Clio (one of the best-selling cars in Europe) and the second-generation Juke offered in many foreign markets. One of the design team's top concerns was keeping costs low, therefore around 70% of the components are shared between the two platforms. As a result, the CMF-B EV platform should be 30% less expensive to construct than the present architecture that supports the electric Zoe hatchback.

Renault emphasises the modularity of the platform. The criteria that can be altered include the wheelbase and the track, allowing Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi to construct a variety of body types on it. A multi-link rear axle is being used in its design, which is rare for this area of the European market. Moreover, Renault is attempting to create a more compact electric motor.

We can't yet give technical details, so we'll have to wait to learn the horsepower and range of the 5. Design-wise, we don't anticipate any substantial changes; Renault most likely will tone down the more futuristic aesthetic cues that distinguish the 5 concept, especially the headlamps, but the general proportions and the nods to earlier models ought to remain largely unchanged.

The first nine prototypes have been constructed by Renault, and its engineers have begun conducting global testing on them. Doing cold-weather tests at Arvidsjaur, a town in Sweden south of the Arctic Circle, while conducting other tests on secret private test tracks away from prying eyes, is pretty typical in the automotive business. The 5's production version is expected to appear in 2024, with development work continuing in the ensuing months. Nothing indicates that the hatchback will be offered in the United States; Renault left our market in 1987, but it's not unreasonable to imagine that a Nissan model later in the 2020s could be built on the CMF-B EV platform.
